Who's Who

Alex Whapham

Hi, I'm Miss Whapham and I am lucky enough to be teaching Lemur Class this year as part of the Year 5 team. It is an exciting opportunity to continue teaching some of the same children again this year, and I look forward to building on our previous learning!
I am the Computing coordinator across the Academy and also run the Digital Leaders at CPS. My favourite subject to teach is Maths and I enjoy problem solving the most. Outside of school, I like to spend time on the beach with my dog Max and watch the Exeter Chiefs play.

Jacob Smith

I have the privilege of teaching Cheetahs' Class in Year 2. I am the Humanities Co-ordinator and I'm particularly interested in the teaching of History.

Prior to teaching at Chulmleigh, I worked in a variety of educational roles both in and out of the classroom across Oxfordshire and Devon.

I look forward to an exciting year and welcome any questions or queries you may have about Year 2.

Bryony De-Ritis

I have the privilege of teaching Year 3 in Yew Class this year. I am very excited to have joined Chulmleigh School as a member of staff, it is my first year of teaching and I am so pleased to be spending it surrounded by such happy and kind pupils and staff. My favourite subjects are P.E, English and Science, however, I love challenging myself in Maths, History and Art too. In my spare time, I play netball and drag my family out for long walks around the North Devon countryside and coast. I love taking learning outside so plan to use the wonderful Woody Wonders area at school lots this year!

I simply love teaching at Chulmleigh Primary School, the children and staff are all so positive and super friendly. My favourite subject is Art but I am enthusiastic about all subjects. I am currently teaching African Penguins Class, Year 5 children, and it's a real privilege getting to work alongside such talented and independent young children..

I am an outdoors person and pretty active. I like to spend my spare time walking and running the coastal paths of North Devon with my three doggies.

Ruth Welch

I am excited to join the dedicated PFSU team at Chulmleigh Primary. I share the teaching of the Reception Class with Becky Cummins and Lully Newman.

I have been teaching Foundation Stage children for 10 years, having also spent time working as a Special Needs Coordinator and delivering pastoral support. My passion is to make learning fun; focusing on planning engaging activities which maximise children’s learning.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my young family particularly being outdoors. I love cycling, walking and I have a variety of different sporting interests.

Kirstin le Gros (Kirsty)

Hello! I have the joy of being Hippos' Class teacher this year. I am very pleased to be teaching the Year 4s with such a super-talented class of young children.

I am the Science Co-ordinator  and look forward to organising another riveting science week and continue running Eco club; promoting environmental awareness both locally and across the world. I really enjoy teaching art and PSHE, being creative and discussing new ideas.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my new dog, Kasey, and walking the footpaths across mid Devon. When the weather gets too wet, I like to watch movies and bake cakes.

Kelly Stapley

I am very excited to be going into another year at Chulmleigh Primary School. My experience in teaching ranges from nursery-aged children through to Year2. I find joy in reading and engaging the children into all areas of the curriculum through a good book.

I love spending time with my family where we enjoy woodland walks, baking together and going to see new and interesting places.

Becky Cummins

I am delighted to be working as part of a dedicated and supportive team in the PFSU.  I share the teaching of the Reception Class children with Ruth Welch and Lully Newman.  I have been teaching Foundation Stage children for 25 years and consider it a privilege to be supporting children at the start of their learning journey.  I look forward to an exciting and fun year ahead.
In addition to my teaching role I am the Primary Phase SENDCo for Chulmleigh Academy Trust. This means I support children, staff and parents at Chulmleigh Primary, East Worlington Primary and Lapford Primary.  This is an enormous and hugely busy job, but thoroughly rewarding and it is such a pleasure to work in all three settings.

Hi, I’m delighted to be teaching Rhinos' Class as well as teaching Maths to both classes in the Year 6 Academy. I also lead Maths across the Academy.
My favourite part of teaching is seeing children grow both academically, but also personally, and achieving to their full potential. All children can achieve to the best of their ability and should always be proud of what they do.
Outside of school I enjoy spending time outdoors, reading and baking (although I’m not very good!). But most of all I enjoy spending quality time with my family and making the most of days together.

Catherine Davis

I am so happy to be the class teacher for Leopards Class, joining the wonderful team in the Year 6 Academy for my first year at Chulmleigh Primary School.  The children are so excited to be in the Academy, and keen to be learning, and they support one another in such positive ways.  Having held a range of posts in Primary school, I am at my happiest in the classroom with the children.

I am also the English subject leader across the three Academy primary schools, and in my free time I love to read as much as possible. Music is another of my hobbies.  I have a big family and we enjoy spending time together, especially up on the North Devon Coast.

Sophie Sluman

I am excited to be teaching Elephant class (Year 3) this year; being new to the school I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and working with you. I am a newly qualified teacher but for the last academic year, I was working as a supply teacher, which has given me experience across all age groups, from Nursery to Year 6. I am looking forward to teaching maths and solving problems in practical ways, as well as learning about how people lived in the past in our history lessons. Outside of school, I like spending time reading a good book and going for walks around North Devon, especially along the cliffs.

Gina Randall

I am the Foundation Stage Supervisor for the Nursery class. I am passionate about my role, where I lead the Writedance, singing and drama with the Reception and Nursery children.
