  • Small Group Open Events October 2021

Due to Devon being in a Covid Enhanced Response Area until 4th October, we have taken the difficult decision to change the way we conduct our open events by replacing the College Open Evening on Tuesday 21st September with a wide range of smaller and more personal events. We are very keen to meet prospective parents/carers and pupils and are delighted to be able to offer a ‘package’ of Covid-safe opportunities to help inform your choice of secondary school for September 2022.
Small group tours – wide range of dates available
We are offering small group tours with our Executive Headteacher Michael Johnson, Deputy Executive Headteacher Neil Payne and SENDCO Laura Mackie. After school for those who may not be able to visit in working hours and morning tours for those who wish to visit during a normal school day.  Being able to see the school ‘in action’ provides an excellent window into what we offer here at Chulmleigh College, and with the tours being led by our Senior Leadership Team in a small group environment, you will have ample opportunities to ask any questions you may have.
We are offering a wide range of dates for these tours, please click on the links below to book.
    After school tours: Morning tours:
Year 6 Taster Morning Saturday 16th October 9am-12pm We are delighted to be able to offer prospective pupils the chance to attend a Taster Morning at the College, where they will experience a range of lessons and activities.

About Us

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our school.

At Chulmleigh College we pride ourselves on offering excellent educational opportunities to all pupils.

Our pupils have a strong reputation for getting some of the best exam results in the region, and an enriched school life is also highly important to us; we have a proud tradition in music, outdoor education, the arts and sport.  As a school we value courtesy, hard work and respect, and set high standards of behaviour; promoting self-discipline, resilience, responsibility and working together as a community.

Our pupils read an astonishing amount of literature, and develop themselves by making the most of the array of opportunities available.  This is all possible because teaching and support staff create the best opportunities for our pupils.  We are very proud of our team, who work hard to make our school a happy place where we learn together in a formal, warm environment. We are also proud of the excellent relationships we have with our pupils, families and friends within the community.

Ofsted inspected us in March 2018 and their comments included ‘strong leadership, a strong emphasis on the performing arts, a collegiate approach, very high expectations and excellent standards of conduct’. To read the report please visit

Every day at Chulmleigh is an ‘Open Day’.  We welcome visits and I always endeavour to personally show any visitors around our remarkable school.

I look forward to meeting you.

Michael Johnson, Executive Headteacher
